Tourists traveling in and out of Thailand will now be able to get a double entry tourist visa to make travel easier soon. Find out more about it below.

For tourists, it can be very difficult to travel into regions that have different visa policies. Some will not permit you to return into the country once you leave it because they only issue single-entry visa. However, things will be changing in Thailand thanks to their double entry visa program.

New Form of Tourist Visa in Thailand

On Friday, November 29, the Thai government announced that tourists who will be visiting Thailand and its neighboring countries can now get the new double entry visa for tourists. With this visa, tourists can go in and out of Thailand and visit its neighboring country like Cambodia, Malaysia and Laos. Once they are finished with their journeys to these countries, they can go back to Thailand without problems.

According to Kobsak Pootrakul, deputy secretary-general to the Thai PM, the new tourist visa may soon be available online. A three-month trial is scheduled to try out the system in two land entry points – Nong Khai (between Thailand and Laos) and Sadao (between Thailand and Malaysia). The two entry ways will be open for 24 hours a day throughout the trial.

Double entry visa from Thailand available soon

Unfortunately, the government has yet to reveal when the trial will start. However, some report that it may be at the end of this year or next month. Once the trial ends, officials will look at the statistics to see how they can operate the program. For instance, they will see if if they should continue with a 24/7 operation or not.

The new tourism visa is just part of the country’s efforts to help the tourism sector in Thailand grow. Kobsak says that the government aims to bring in 42 million visitors to the country by 2020. So far, they have welcomed 20 million tourists in the first half of 2019 and the year-end total is close to 39 million.

Experts say that the validity of the visa will be limited. Details are not yet out for the public to review.

Thailand is adopting measures to boost tourism. Find out more about these new measures.

Thailand is a popular tourist destination for many foreigners who like to enjoy food trips and shopping bargains. However, with the recent upsurge of its national currency, tourism is having problems making up for it. Fortunately, the government is now making an effort to resolve the problem.

New Tourism Measures

On Saturday, the Tourism and Sports Ministry introduced new measures that would help improve the country’s tourism. The new measures will be in place before the end of the year and aims to increase the number of places and agents offering VAT refund to foreign visitors to Thailand.

According to the reports, the ministry will be revising some of the tourism rules for foreigners. Hotel and accommodation providers will be given financial help to improve their properties. Safety rules will also be in place to reduce the risk of accidents and deaths for tourists.

Bangkok, Thailand

They will also be holding major sporting and entertainment events to get people in the country. Currently, they are trying to reach out to international conferences to make their events in the country.

According to Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, they are expecting around 41.8 million tourists who will spend around 2.22 trillion baht next year. This year, they are expecting 40 million visitors to come to the country.

In support of the government’s plans to boost its tourism, the Finance Ministry approved a stimulus package for the final half of the year. The stimulus package aims to boost the country’s tourism growth by 3% and help bring in tourists to reach the 40 million tourist target for 2019.

Last Thursday, the World Bank reduced their growth projection for 2019 to 2.7% from 3.5% because of the export rates in the country. This rate puts Thailand as one of the ASEAN countries with a low GDP growth rate for 2019. They also foresee that it will be down to 2.9% for 2020.

Do you travel without a travel insurance? you may need to reconsider it when you travel to Thailand.

Travel insurance guarantees that you will be protected from all eventualities during your trip. It may be a medical emergency, cancelled or delayed flight or missing luggage. Some travelers do not avail this because of the price. But, in the near future, it may be compulsory when you travel to a new country.

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand

On Thursday, July 4, Thailand announced that they are discussing a new policy to make travel insurance compulsory. The policy is the country’s response after several reports of incidents involving tourists. One such incident is the 2018 boat accident that killed 47 Chinese tourists in Phuket.

What are the details of this new policy?

Under the travel insurance policy, travelers will be required to buy an insurance coverage worth 20-baht at the airport. The coverage will provide a death coverage of up to 1 million baht. According to the Thai Office of the Insurance Commission, the insurance is available in immigration offices in all Thai airports.

The proceeds of the sold insurance policies will go to Thailand’s Tourism Promotion Fund. It will also cover cover payments for claims.

With the new policy, the government aims to reassure tourists that it is safe to visit Thailand. The new policy is scheduled to roll out later this year. However, the policy has yet to get the approval from the Tourism and Sports Ministry.

Bangkok, Thailand

Aside from the travel insurance policy, Thailand is also working on a special tourism scheme for Nakhon Nayon. Under the new scheme, tour operators must provide insurance for tourists and tour guides. Last year, almost 2.1 million tourists visited Nakhon Nayok for outdoor activities.

Tour operators must provide each tourist coverage worth 1 million baht in case of death and 500,000 baht for injury. Failure to follow this scheme will result in a 500,000 baht penalty.

Many insurance groups welcome the announcement. However, they recommend that travelers still get full travel insurances. The proposed Thai policy only covers death.

How to go to Thailand?

Thailand is one of the popular tourist destinations in Asia. Thanks to this, it is very easy to fly to the country from any part of the globe. There are also cruises stopping at Thailand and other Asian destinations.
