Where to stay in Minneapolis? Learn more about the best places to stay in Minneapolis, the capital of the state known as the land of ten-thousand lakes

Located in the US Midwest, Minneapolis is half of the Twin Cities that sit along the Mississippi River in Minnesota. With a growing population, a strong private sector and good infrastructure, the city has expanded to a great stop for travelers. Read on to see our top suggestions on the best areas to stay in Minneapolis.

Getting to Minneapolis

The easiest way to get to Minneapolis from most major cities in North America is by air. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport sits just South of the two metro areas (Minneapolis and Saint Paul). Located in the heart of North America and a hub for Delta airlines, it’s a well-organized airport.

Due to its location in the center of the US, it doesn’t have the traffic of coastal cities. However, it still maintains a great quality and level of service equal to many major airports. The Minnesota Saint Paul Airport offers direct flights to most major cities in the US, as well as some destinations in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.

If you are flying to Minneapolis, compare and book flights on Jetradar.

Best Places to Stay in Minneapolis

Drawing a population from the expanses of the Midwest, Minneapolis has a wide range of places to see and things to do. Whether you’re looking for good food, art, nightlife, shows, or something outdoors, there’s plenty of options. Here are our top choices to stay in Minneapolis.

Downtown Minneapolis

With a large amount of private businesses operating in the Minneapolis metro area, the city caters to all. For those looking for great food, many unique restaurants sit on street level. Cafés and live entertainment bars also dot the city to sustain a thriving arts scene.

The famous First Avenue, which catered to artists such as Prince, is housed here, and the modern Guthrie Theater sits overlooking the Mississippi with world class theater performances. With a huge selection of stages and arenas, one can always find a great live show in the city.

Finally on the West side, the Walker Art Center sits with public art displays always worth experiencing. With exhibits both indoors and out, this art locale always has something to offer, rain or shine.

Uptown

Located just South of the downtown area is home to the “Uptown” neighborhood of Minneapolis. Home to many of the active professionals who work downtown, the area caters to all. With unique restaurants, bars, cafes, and shopping, there is plenty to enjoy day and night. If you would prefer something outdoors, the nearby Bde Maka Ska Lake is perfect for walks.

East / West University Banks

On the Northeast side of downtown sits the large campus of the University of Minnesota. Home to thousands of students each year, business and entertainment soon popped up to cater to the students. During the daytime one can find a wide selection of cafes and restaurants to enjoy. During the night you can explore the nightlife of Dinkytown or see a live show.

Mall of America

While a little distance away from downtown Minneapolis, this attraction deserves special mention. The Mall of America, located just a short distance away from MSP Airport, is currently the largest mall in the world in area. The Mall of America is exactly in Bloomington, 10 miles south of Downtown Minneapolis.

Home to an indoor amusement park, an attached hotel, and a huge selection of shops and foods, it has something for everyone. With theaters, shopping, and live events, there’s something for the whole family here.

Reasonably Priced Accommodation in Minnesota, MN – $$

Best Western Plus The Normandy Inn & Suites – a great option offering an excellent value for the money in Downtown Minneapolis.

Le Meridien Chambers – a great luxurious option in Downtown Minneapolis.

Seasonal Trails

If you visit Minnesota during the Summer or Fall months, make sure to enjoy the high quality nature trails. Even all around the metro area, Minneapolis is home to these beautiful paths. Along the riverside, around lakes, or just through quiet neighborhoods, these trails can demonstrate the gorgeous flora of the Midwest during the warm months.

minneapolis minnesota

Bike rentals are plentiful, too. Public bike rental stations dot the trails, as well as specialized shops. The ‘Green Line’ which runs along Minneapolis is a particular local favorite for business and pleasure. If you’re looking for a low-cost outdoor activity, consider the bike trails.

Best Time to Visit Minneapolis

Minnesota sits in the North of the Continental US, meaning that it has well defined seasons. While there isn’t necessarily a bad time of year, the “best” time ultimately depends on what you want out of your travel experience. Summers in Minnesota are best to enjoy the parks, rivers, and lakes, as they are temperate and mostly sunny.

However, Fall is a great time to see the changing colors, and Winter brings skiing, ice fishing, and skating. No matter what time you visit Minnesota, there’s always something to do, but decide on if the temperature and weather matters to you.

Cost of Travel in Minneapolis

Minneapolis sits in the middle range of the country in terms of cost. While not the most prominent city in the United States, it is still home to a successful and growing population. Depending on your budget, you can find very affordable options in lodging, food, and transportation.

If you can afford more luxury, however, the options exist as well. High class restaurants and nationally-ranking sports stadiums can be found all over the city for those looking for a fancier night out. Regardless of your budget while you stay in Minneapolis, there are plenty of options to enjoy.

Where to Stay in San Jose, Costa Rica? This post will guide you through the best areas to stay in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica

If you are interest in finding the best places to stay in San José, you’ve found the right guide. San José is the largest city and capital of Costa Rica. It has 8 districts and finding the best area is ideal for a fun filled trip in the bustling capital.

San José is a city sprawled amongst the lush tropical mountains of Costa Rica. In this article you will find tips to gain the best experience in San José and explore all that the bustling capital has to offer.

Tourism in San José: Overview

In 1738, the Spanish founded San José. It was meant to centralize and concentrate the people of the Aserrí Valley with the construction of a chapel: La Boca del Monte. In 1740, St. Joseph was elected the parish patron and gave the capital its name: San José. It wasn’t until 1823 that it was named the capital; one of the youngest capital cities in all of Latin America.

The best way to navigate this bustling city is by walking in the day. By walking you are avoiding the heavy traffic on roads and the central Downtown area is small enough to explore on foot. Walking also gives you the ability to ease stress by not renting a car and worrying about finding a parking spot, which can be a challenge in the city.

If you need another option there are public buses; however, with the public transportation it’s best to know exactly where you want to go on the bus route, where and when to get off, because the driver most likely will not speak a language outside of Spanish.

Taxis are also available for the night, but for your safety be sure to only use the city’s official taxis. They should have the proper markings: taxis are red and have a yellow triangle on the driver’s door. The triangle on the door should give the license, as well as the province. Only take a taxi marked the province that you are currently in. Taxis may only pick up customers within their own province.

The Juan Santamaría International Airport (IATA: SJO) is the biggest in Costa Rica and serves San Jose. There are direct daily flights to many destinations in North America and Europe from the SJO Airport. If you are planning to visit Costa Rica soon, compare and book flights using Jetradar.

Best Places to Stay in San Jose, Rica

San José is a large city currently counting with 8 districts. The best place to stay is the Downtown area. Ideally, your accommodation would put you within walking distance of all the attractions.

Below, we will analyze Downtown San José and some of the areas within the area that are the best places to stay.

National Theatre of Costa Rica

The National Theatre of Costa Rica (Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica) is a neo-classical treasure and was built from the rise of tax on coffee in Costa Rica. It is still in operations today, drawing tourists and putting on shows and also happens to be centrally located within the Downtown area.

It is a high point for tourists and boasts many unique hotels within blocks of its location. A small square and seating area is located in the front of the theater, which connect to a nearly walking mall. It is a magnificent piece of history that every tourist would appreciate to see.

The theatre is also in the some central area of the city, making of it a perfect reference to choose a place to stay in the San Jose.

Barrio Amón

This historic district also found its roots in coffee. In this historic neighborhood you will find mansions of the late 19th and early 20th century making it a both a historic and artistic draw. Many of the mansions today have been turned into hotels and restaurants. It is a must see for anyone with a thirst for architecture.

Paseo Colón

The Paseo Colón is one of the most important avenues in the city, and also a pretty safe area. In Paseo Colón and its surroundings you will find plenty of accommodation options, as well as eateries for all budgets.

Escazu

The Escazu area is considerably far from the city center, but it is one of the best areas to stay in San Jose. The upscale Escazu neighborhood has all the amenities you might expect for your trip, and a good choice of high class hotels.

Budget Accommodation Options in San Jose, Costa Rica – $

Hostel del Paseo – A great option for a budget stay in San Jose, in the Paseo Colon.

Selina San José – An affordable quality option in one of the best areas to stay in San Jose.

Reasonably Priced Accommodations in San Jose, Costa Rica – $$

Hotel The Palm House Inn – a great hotel just a short walk to the National Theatre in one of the most central places to stay in San Jose.

Exe San Jose Center – A quality hotel in the very center of San Jose.

Luxury Hotels in San Jose, Costa Rica – $$$

Real InterContinental at Multiplaza Mall – A superior hotel in Escazu, one of the best areas to stay in San Jose.

San Jose Safety

San José is both a safe and unsafe city. During the day, the streets are often busy while at night, there are steps that you should take to ensure your safety. While Downtown San José is where the majority of the tourists go, it also brings petty crime. At all times, be aware of your belongings as pick pockets do roam the streets.

At night, walking should be avoided, and the city’s red taxis should be used to reach a destination, but please keep in mind that during the daylight hours, you are safe walking. Simply, be aware of your surroundings. One of the eight districts that you should skip is Hatillo as it has a bad reputation with drug ties.

Cost of Travel

While San José is more expensive than other Central American cities, by American and European standards, it is still extremely affordable. For a traveler on a tight budget, San José has a minimum of $30USD per day, per person. A more flexible budget would be $50USD per day. One of the best tips to avoid overpaying is to change your currency to the local currency called colones. The city will also be more expensive during the tourist season, or dry season, so plan accordingly.

The San José International airport is just a short ride outside of the city and connects San Jose to the world. As Costa Rica is getting more popular, so is the availabilty of flights to city’s biggest airport.

Best Months to Visit San José

While all of Costa Rica is tropical it still has its own set of extreme weather. The rainy season brings heavy rain and cooler temperatures, leaving it out of favor with travelers. The best time to visit is the dry season which runs from mid-December to April. During the dry season, one can expect to find days filled with sunshine to explore the city, forests, beaches, and unique biodiversity that Costa Rica is uniquely home to.

Airbnb has revolutionized the travel industry by providing a platform for individuals to rent out their properties to travelers around the world. Since its launch in 2008, the company has experienced tremendous growth, and today it operates in more than 220 countries and has over 150 million users worldwide.

So, How does Airbnb make money?

One of the primary ways in which Airbnb generates revenue is through commissions from the rental owners. The company charges a fee to hosts for every booking made through the platform. The fee is usually a percentage of the total booking amount and can range from 3% to 14.2%, depending on the type of property and the location. In addition, Airbnb charges guests a service fee, which ranges from 0% to 20%, and is based on the cost of the rental. These fees are how Airbnb makes money and are a significant part of the company’s revenue stream.

The commission-based model is a win-win for both Airbnb and rental owners. Rental owners get the benefit of a platform that connects them with potential guests, offers booking management tools, and provides access to a large audience. Meanwhile, Airbnb benefits from the commissions generated by these bookings.

This model incentivizes both parties to work together to create a positive experience for guests, which can lead to repeat bookings and a loyal customer base for Airbnb. Overall, the commission-based model has been a successful strategy for Airbnb, enabling the company to generate significant revenue while simultaneously providing value to rental owners and travelers.

Is Airbnb profitable?

Airbnb has been profitable in recent years, although the company has had some ups and downs. In 2020, the company reported a net loss of $696.9 million due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the travel industry. However, in the second quarter of 2021, Airbnb reported its first profitable quarter since going public in December 2020.

The company reported a profit of $217 million, up from a loss of $400 million in the same quarter the previous year. This shows that the company has the potential to be profitable and that its business model can work in different market conditions.

The price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is a useful metric for investors to evaluate the financial health of a company. The P/E ratio represents the price of a company’s stock divided by its earnings per share. In recent years, Airbnb’s P/E ratio has been relatively high compared to other companies in the travel industry, indicating that investors have high expectations for the company’s future earnings potential.

In April 2023, the company’s P/E ratio was around 40, indicating that investors were willing to pay a premium for the company’s stock based on its potential earnings growth (Booking for example had a PE ratio around 34 in the same period). Overall, while Airbnb has faced some challenges in recent years, the company has shown that it can be profitable and has a business model that appeals to both investors and users.

How can you make money with Airbnb?

Becoming an Airbnb host can be a great way to generate income by renting out your extra space to travelers. To get started, you will need to create a profile on the Airbnb platform and list your space with a description, photos, and availability. Once your listing is live, you can start receiving booking requests from travelers around the world. As a host, you can set your own rental rates and availability, and Airbnb will take care of the payment processing and insurance coverage for your property.

There are several ways you can make money as an Airbnb host. One way is to rent out a spare room in your home, which can be a great way to earn extra income while still having the flexibility to use your home for your personal needs. You can also rent out your entire home while you’re away on vacation or for extended periods.

Additionally, you can offer unique accommodations like treehouses, yurts, or tiny homes, which can attract adventurous travelers looking for a one-of-a-kind experience. As a host, you can also offer additional services like airport pick-up, tours, or meals, which can generate extra income and enhance the guest experience. Overall, Airbnb provides a great opportunity for individuals to monetize their extra space and generate income in a flexible and convenient way.

But, How can you make money on Airbnb without a property?

One may initially think that it’s impossible to make money on Airbnb without owning a property, but in reality, there are a few ways to earn income from this popular platform.

One of the most popular options is to become an Airbnb property manager. This involves managing the properties of other Airbnb hosts in exchange for a fee. As a property manager, you would be responsible for communicating with guests, handling bookings, and ensuring that the property is in excellent condition. This can be a profitable way to make money without the expense of owning a property.

Another way to make money on Airbnb without owning a property is by creating a cleaning company that specializes in cleaning Airbnb rentals. With the increasing popularity of Airbnb, many hosts are in need of reliable and efficient cleaning services to ensure that their properties are ready for the next guest.

As a cleaning company owner, you can offer cleaning services to multiple Airbnb hosts and charge per clean. By providing excellent service, you can establish a solid reputation and attract more clients, which can lead to a steady stream of income. Overall, with a little creativity and initiative, making money on Airbnb without owning a property is definitely possible.

When to visit Barbados

The location in the Caribbean Sea means that the temperatures in Barbados are warm and pleasant year-round. The sea is never too cold for a relaxing swim and the sun is always strong enough for sunbathing. However, from July to

November there is a hurricane season. Even if some of the neighboring islands are often hit by the hurricanes, they very rarely travel over Barbados. This is because this country is the most eastern island in the Caribbean. Meaning, if you are travelling during the hurricane season, the island is your best choice.

The high season in the island takes place from December to April. The sun shines the most and the sea becomes calmer during these months. Also, the prices double and the hotels are often fully booked. If you are looking to save some money, it is a good idea to travel at the beginning or at the end of hurricane season when there is less chance for cloudy days.

Are you considering starting an Airbnb business? Learn below what are the top countries currently to start your investment and earn the most out of it.

Best Countries to Start an Airbnb Investment: Factors

It can be rather subjective what makes a good place to start an Airbnb. Some people prefer warm weather and some prefer the beach. Others may like a cosmopolitan feeling, or the country side.

Regardless of personal preferences, let’s try to address some of the main factors to determine the success of your Airbnb business.

The main factors to determine whether an Airbnb is a good investment are: regulations, infrastructure, seasonality, cost of real estate, taxes and rental yields.

Airbnb Investment: Country and City Regulations

Before considering an Airbnb investment, one should know what regulations may affect the performance or viability of the business venture.

In San Francisco, CA, you can only rent your premises on Airbnb for up to 90 days a year. You must also be a full-time resident of the place you are renting (for example a room in your house). Berlin is another city with restrictions, you can only rent up to 90 days per year if the place is not your primary residence.

Another regulation aspect to be considered is owning real estate. In some countries, you may face restrictions to buy real estate if you are not a citizen of that country. This laws are becoming more flexible, and in many cases incorporating a company in the given country would solve this problem.

Finally, if you want to live in the same country as you are investing on your Airbnb project, you may need a residence permit. This varies greatly and will also depend on your citizenship, but it is good to check it before hand.

Airbnb Investment: Country Infrastructure

Another thing to bear in mind in your project is the country infrastructure. While owning a beach resort in Nicaragua may sound tempting, the infrastructure will certainly impact your quality of life and inflow of tourists.

Make sure you prioritize regions easily accessible by road, railways and airports. Ideally, places with an international airport at a 50 km range should be a good idea.

Airbnb Investment: Seasonality

Seasonality is one of the key aspects of any hospitality related investment. With Airbnb is no different. While some cities like Paris or Rome tend to have an influx of tourists year round, other cities are not that privileged.

Locations subject to seasonality tend to have a lower, overall earnings. However, it may not be the case, if the season is long or expensive enough to make up for the rest of the year.

A great tool to analyze seasonality is Airdna.co.

Airbnb Investment: Costs of Real Estate, Taxes and Rental Yields

Finally, probably the main part of any real estate investment are costs. Firstly, we should consider the cost of acquiring real estate, and then its operational costs. Then, taxes and rental yields are also very relevant to your investment.

The cost of real estate is especially critical to assess where you can actually acquire units to rent. Some of the most visited cities in the world like London, New York and Tokyo have also some of the most expensive per square feet / meter prices.

Taxes are also a huge detail you should consider before investing. The tax from your Airbnb income varies greatly from country to country, usually ranging from 3% to 25% in most countries.

Finally, there are the rental yields. They will determine how long you will have to rent your Airbnb unit to recover the investment made.

Best Countries to Invest in Airbnb

Now let’s check our list of the best countries to start an Airbnb Investment.

5 – Colombia

Colombia definitely deserves a place in our list and it ranks high in many important aspects for an Airbnb investment.

airbnb investment

Touristy cities like Cartagena and Medellin have low prices per square meter / foot and decent occupancy rates.

Colombia is also one of the safest countries to travel in South America. The country also has great weather year-round, and acquiring a residence permit is also quite easy.

4 – Spain

Spain is one of the tourist hot spots in Europe and it is easy to understand why. Better than that, you can find great opportunities for bargain prices if you look beyond cities like Madrid and Barcelona.

where to stay in seville

The Iberian country also has a relatively affordable cost of living. Cities like Valencia, Malaga and Seville have pretty low cost per square meter for Western European standards.

Regulations and bureaucracy are some of the worst aspects of investing in Spain. Taxes are high and the amount of red tape is very high.

3 – Poland

Poland might not be the first country which you might consider when traveling in Europe, but it does offer great cities for tourism. In fact, this sector has been steadily growing in the country for the past years.

Cities like Krakow and Wroclaw can still be a good bargain if you are considering buying a rental studio in the old town.

Poland tends to get pretty cold in winter, especially in the months of January and February. This seasonality affects the country’s performance, but it is still an excellent choice for Airbnb rentals.

2 – Montenegro and Albania

Montenegro and Albania are two excellent choices if you want to enjoy the Adriatic sea and earn from your Airbnb investment.

Best Beaches in Montenegro.

With pristine beaches and mountainous landscapes, both Montenegro and Albania are highly attractive for tourists. Real estate prices are also inviting, and getting a residence permit in these countries is equally easy.

The major downside of Montenegro and Albania is the seasonality. Most of the bookings happen in the European summer season, from May to September.

1 – Cambodia

If Southeast Asia is your region of choice, Cambodia is a great place to invest in real estate. Cambodia has considerably cheaper prices and much less strict regulations than its immediate and more famous neighbor, Thailand.

Although prices in the capital Phnom Penh are already not very attractive as they went up in the last decade, Cambodia has much more to offer. Cities like Sieam Reap is an excellent choice as has a steady flow of tourists from both Asia and Europe.

How to open a US bank account as a non-resident non-citizen in 2023? Check our guide below on banking in the US even if you live abroad

Do you want to open a US bank but you a non-resident and non-citizen of the United States? This guide will explore some options based on my personal experience on opening an account in the USA.

us bank account non resident

Our Recommended Provider

We’ve found that TransferWise is a convenient and cheap banking alternative for expats. You can create a free account online in minutes, which gives you your own US bank account details to receive US dollars for free.

With a TransferWise account your money will always be converted at the mid-market exchange rate, making them up to 8 times cheaper than banks for managing your money overseas. You can also hold more than 50 currencies until you need it, for free.

Banking in the USA as a Non-Resident / Non-Citizen

Before we start, it is important to know that banking regulations change constantly. The information below is just based on my experience. I strongly suggest you getting in touch with the bank and the branch you are planning to open the account before visiting it.

There are many reasons why one may want to open a bank account in the United States as a non-resident and non-citizen. Among many other examples, we can mention a few, such as if you visit the US often and you want to reduce bank and card fees when spending in the country. If you work online and often receive payments from US companies, this might be also the case. Finally you may want to buy real estate or do other types of investments in the country.

But, opening a bank account in the United States is not the most simple procedure. The first problem most foreigners encounter is lacking an SSN. Most banks will require a Social Security Number to open a bank account in the US. Non-residents and non-citizens in most case do not have an SSN and this limits access to US banking retail services.

So, what to do if you don’t have an SSN and still want to open a bank account in the US? Let’s explore the options.

Is it possible to open a US bank account as a non-resident?

The good news is that it is possible to open a US bank account as a non-resident and non-citizen. However, just some banks accept this type of customers, and the requirements may even change from state to state, or even between branches.

Even if you do not have the access to the banking market on the same terms as an US citizen, you can still get a personal or corporate bank account in the US as a non-citizen. Let’s explore the options for both personal and corporate bank accounts.

How to open an US bank account with SSN?

It is still possible to open an US bank account without an SSN. But, just a few banks will accept you. You can either visit a bank in the US (and ideally pre-arrange a meeting at a branch to make sure they accept customers with no SSN). Your, you can use the EMI solution (instructions below).

Personal Bank Account in the US as a Non-Citizen and Non-Resident

Essentially if you want to open a personal bank account in the US as a non-citizen, you will have a few options. The requirements will change from bank to bank, from state to state and even from branch to branch. Therefore, if you are coming to the US and your main purpose is getting a personal bank account, check your options before hand.

As of 2023, at least two banks will require you to open a bank account as a non-resident and non-citizen. TD Bank and Bank of America allow you to do it, however, it will depend on the state and on the branch you will apply.

According to TD Bank support all you need to do is bring your passport to a branch. However, after visiting two branches in the State of New York, the requirements also included an utility bill with your name to an US address. I was informed that in New Jersey there is no such requirement, however double check with the branch you plan to visit.

The other option is Bank of America. Depending on the branch and state, it is possible to open a US Bank Account with just your passport and a US address. You don’t need to show any utility bill on your name, just be able to receive mail in that physical address. Citibank also offers solutions for non residents. Wells Fargo announced it will close all non-resident accounts without a permanent US address as of 2023.

Some banks may also require a proof of address and / or a debit card from your country of origin.

Currently from my research JPMorgan does not accept non resident non citizen retail clients.

It is important to stress that for opening a bank account in the US it is required to come personally to a branch in virtually all cases.

Corporate Bank Account in the US as a Non-Resident

Another option is to open a company in the United States and get a corporate bank account. This option is especially convenient for those who do business and get online payments with companies in the USA.

The price is incredibly affordable. When you incorporate an US company, it will have an EIN (which is the SSN for companies, roughly speaking). With the EIN, your options for banking are more varied. Usually he companies offering incorporation services for foreigners can also provide some guidance on how to open a corporate bank account.

Getting an ITIN

If you are an non-resident and non-citizen of the USA, you can apply for an ITIN. The ITIN is a processing number issued by the IRS for individuals who are ineligible for an SSN (which is the case of most non-resident non-citizens). With an ITIN some banks will allow you to open a bank account, using the ITIN instead of the SSN.

Wise (Formerly TransferWise) Borderless Account

The TransferWise Borderless Account is another option to get an US account number without going to the US physically. It is in my opinion, the best option if you are a physical person or running a small online business and want to get payments worldwide.

The Transferwise Borderless Account also provides you with UK, European and Australian bank details, so it is definitely a great option if you work online, or just send and receive money from many countries.

Click here to open a TransferWise (now Wise) account

Payoneer Alternative

In some cases, you will not need a US bank account, and getting a Payoneer card will be enough for your needs. Through Payoneer, you will get an USD debit card and many onlne companies sent direct payments to Payoneer. This way you can keep your funds in USD, and pay/withdraw using your Payoneer card direcly. However, it doesn’t have a number of functions a US bank account has.

Click here to get your Payoneer card

As we can see, it is still possible, but not simple to open a bank account in the United States as a non resident in 2023. Make sure you get your documents right, before visiting the bank.

What does Sterling Silver mean?

Sterling silver is a type of silver that is used in the manufacture of jewelry, silverware, and other items. It is a silver alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, for example copper.

When silver is referred to as “sterling,” it means that it must adhere to a certain purity requirement in order to qualify as such. To be branded and sold as sterling silver in the United States, silver must be at least 92.5% pure.

The requirement may fluctuate slightly in various nations, but generally speaking, sterling silver needs to contain at least 92.5% pure silver.

What is silver used for?

Silver has many uses, both industrial and decorative. Some of the main uses of silver include the production of jewelry, silverware, and other decorative items.

Silver is also used in the production of electronic devices, such as computers and mobile phones, as it is a good conductor of electricity. Silver is also used in the medical industry, as it has antimicrobial properties that make it useful for wound dressings and other medical applications. In addition, silver is used in the production of mirrors, as it has the ability to reflect light very effectively.

There are many other uses for silver, including in the production of coins, as a catalyst in chemical reactions, and in the production of solar panels.

How is silver traded in stock markets?

On stock exchanges all throughout the world, silver is traded alongside other commodities.

The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), a global market for trading precious metals, is the most well-known exchange for trading silver. Silver is traded on the LBMA as futures contracts and other financial instruments, with supply and demand dictating price. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and the New York Mercantile Exchange are two more exchanges where silver is traded in addition to the London Bullion Market Association (NYMEX).

Prices for silver are established similarly on these exchanges, which also include futures contracts and other trading options.

The SLV ETF

A well-known exchange-traded fund (ETF) that monitors the price of silver is the SLV ETF. The fund, which is run by iShares Silver Trust, aims to give investors a simple and affordable method to invest in silver.

The SLV ETF’s physical silver backing and substantial silver holdings in storage allow it to closely follow the price of silver. The fund is easily purchased and sold since it is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), just like any other stock.

Montreal is a fusion between the Old Europe and the New World. It offers a great combination of beautiful architecture, great food and magnificent nature accessible very close to the city. Very open to foreign immigration, Montreal is a multicultural and cosmopolitan town boasting with centuries of history.

If you are looking for a place to stay in this vibrant metropolis, this guide will be perfect for you. We are giving you a detailed blueprint of places and areas to stay in Montreal.

Tourism in Montreal: Overview

Montreal is a great city to explore and offers a vast array of attractions to visitors. It was founded in the 17th century by Samuel de Champlain. He was a French explorer. Quickly, Montreal established itself as the commercial capital of Canada. However, Toronto has now taken the first place, and Montreal sits at the second place.

The largest city in Quebec has a lot to offer to its visitors. The architecture reflects the old French influence, with its old buildings. In the business center, the American influence is clearly visible. High-rise buildings are predominant, reflecting century-old churches in their glass walls.

The food will delight you after a long day of walking around and visits. Do not miss the traditional poutine, a dish of fries topped with cheese and brown sauce. The beaver’s tail, a fried piece of dough with any sweet topping you want, is also something to eat while you are in Montreal.

The main language spoken there is French. However, many locals also speak English, making it easy for foreign travellers to communicate.

In addition, Montreal is a very safe city for anyone visiting. You will rarely experience any trouble at any time of the day of the night.

Best Places to Stay in Montreal

Montreal is divided in several neighborhoods. Some of them are home to cultural minorities. For example, many French are gathered around the Mont Royal, on what is called the Plateau. This is a great area to stay in, as there are many bars and restaurants.

The subway and bus network makes it easy to roam around the city and the main sights. You will thus never be too far from what you want to see, wherever you are staying.

Plateau-Mont-Royal

This is the one of the liveliest part of town. Many restaurants and bars are located in this area, along with several nightclubs. There, you can find a lot of traditional guesthouses instead of big chains of hotels. It is a great way of discovering the city, as you can get recommendations directly from the locals. Breakfasts are also traditional. A great excuse to enjoy pancakes and maple syrup!

The area is also the nearest to the Mount Royal, real green lung of the city. It offers an amazing park and, from the top, a great view on the Saint Lawrence River and some districts of Montreal. Ideal for to immerse yourself in nature, spot some squirrels and enjoy an ice cream in the sun during the summer.

Last but not least, this part of the city connects well to the subway network. The main stations are Mont Royal, Sherbrooke, and Laurier.

Old Montreal

The Old Montreal neighbourhood is the oldest of the city, as its name suggests. It is the favorite area by tourists to stay in Montreal, as most of the historic sites are in its vicinity. Several museums are also located in this area. They include the Château Ramezay or the Pointe-à-Callière museum.

Most of the architectural wonders of the city are in the old town. Seven buildings dating back to the French times are still visible today. On top of that, you should also stop by two main squares, the Place d’Armes and the Place Jacques Cartier. Many old buildings surround them. They include the New York Life building, the Bank of Montreal building, and the basilica Notre Dame de Montréal.

This area also includes the old port of Montreal. It is a lovely sight for a stroll in the sun or a bicycle ride. The Science Centre is located there as well, offering an IMAX screen to visitors on top of its more classic exhibitions. In the summer, people can enjoy a sandy beach on the Saint Lawrence river.

A nice hotel room costs between 60€ and 100€ for two people, and good food can be found for around 10€. A bus ticket costs 2.15€. Overall, a budget of 500€ per person and per week, excluding airfare, is a good choice for a comfortable experience.

Best Months to Visit Quebec

The province of Quebec gets really (I mean really!) cold during the winter months. Snow covers the majority of the city and the Saint Lawrence river freezes. The whole city goes underground to hide from the cold. This is only for the bravest!

The summer months are nice and warm. Between the months of June and September is the perfect time to explore the city, as the weather is the most pleasant. At the very beginning of fall, the Indian Summer allows you to enjoy warm temperatures and stunning views of the trees changing colours, especially on the Mont Royal.
